News-Events 20/09/2023

On September 18th, the People's Committee of Nam Dinh province issued a document approving the National Park Xuan Thuy and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to prepare a dossier to nominate Xuan Thuy National Park as an ASEAN Heritage Park.

Accordingly, Xuan Thuy National Park will collaborate with relevant units to ensure compliance with the procedures and guidelines set by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The People's Committee of Nam Dinh province has assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and other relevant units to guide Xuan Thuy National Park in implementing the regulations.

The ASEAN Heritage Park is a title for the comprehensive conservation of important natural ecosystems with unique characteristics in the ASEAN region. The recognition of the ASEAN Heritage Park title is crucial for the conservation of ecosystems that not only have high biodiversity value but also possess cultural and historical significance for each country and the entire region. It also contributes to raising awareness of biodiversity conservation among the people of ASEAN countries.

A quick embracing shot in Xuan Thuy National Park

Xuan Thuy National Park is located at the mouth of the Ba Lat River, where the Red River flows into the sea, with Giao Thuy district (Nam Dinh) on one side and Tien Hai district (Thai Binh) on the other. The park covers a total area of 14,500 hectares, including over 7,100 hectares of core zone and over 7,300 hectares of buffer zone, spanning across 5 communes: Giao Thien, Giao An, Giao Lac, Giao Xuan, and Giao Hai in Giao Thuy district. It is not only the most typical estuarine alluvial plain for the coastal ecosystem of the Red River Delta but also an important "transit station" for international migratory birds, including the Black-faced Spoonbill listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Since 1989, Xuan Thuy National Park has been a member of the Ramsar Convention, an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands, particularly as habitats for waterbirds, signed in Ramsar, Iran in 1971 to conserve and wisely use wetlands through local, regional, national, and international actions to contribute to sustainable development goals worldwide. In 2004, the park was recognized by UNESCO as the core area of the Red River Biosphere Reserve./.
