Vietnam's participation in the activities of the Acid Deposition Monitoring Network in East Asia

At the end of August 2023, a delegation from the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Climate Change attended the 24th Senior Technical Managers Meeting (STM24) held in Japan.

The Senior Technical Managers Meeting is one of the annual activities of the Acid Deposition Monitoring Network in East Asia (EANET), with the participation of National Focal Points from member countries, including Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, South Korea, Russia, and Thailand.

During the sessions, the EANET Secretariat and the Network Center presented and discussed various topics, including the progress of EANET since STM23, the draft data for 2022, the evaluation of the Inter-Laboratory Comparison Project in 2022, the National Monitoring Plan within the framework of EANET, the current monitoring activities and air quality monitoring status of member countries, and the Low-Cost Sensor (LCS) Development Methodology Research Project for the Hybrid Air Quality Monitoring Network (HAQMN).


Associate Professor Le Ngoc Cau, Deputy Director of the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Climate Change, delivered a speech at the conference.

The delegation members from the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Climate Change actively contributed their opinions on the activities of EANET, presenting the Monitoring Plan for Acid Deposition within the framework of EANET and the LCS research conducted by Vietnam.

Air quality monitoring, particularly acid deposition monitoring, is becoming increasingly important in air quality management. The use of LCS in air quality monitoring has exerted abundant advantages, such as low cost, simple installation and operation, and quick data provision. It is highly important that Vietnam actively participate in research activities and workshops related to LCS to learn and share information in this field and move towards widespread application./.
